With my cousin, Julie, using the Bay Area Rapid Transit Train. I wanted to taking her shopping and we pretty much destroyed our wallets buying Tory Burch and Kate Spade wallets. Frank Biehl

Date: 12/04/12
Time: 3:30PM
Location: Starbucks 2290 E Capitol Expressway, San Jose, CA
We had met Frank Biehl at our local Starbucks on Capitol and Tully. He looked very professional as he dressed in a suit and brought a suitcase with a notepad to take notes on what we had asked. We had discussed an very hotly debated topic - Work To Rule. I wanted to hear the difference between the opposing perspectives that the board members/district hold and what the teachers hold. As a student this movement directly affects me - I am limited in my extracurricular activities as well as my education quality. He had given us a lot of information regarding the assumptions students may hold, such as statistics and explanations on how things had worked. At the end he mentioned how his main goal is just to find a resolution that compensates both sides.

J. Manuel Herrera

Date: 12/4/14
Time: 5:30PM
Location: ESUHSD District Office
As the president of Board Members, Herrera has also been a long alumni of ESUSHD. At Overfelt High School, he had served as ASB president since his junior to his senior year. He did not have the typical 4 years of college most students had, he spent most of his time studying abroad. At the age of 20, he had traveled to Japan, China, India and Mexico. During his 4th year of college he was given the opportunity to intern at Washington D.C. under a congressman. Through these events he chose to be involved in leading a community that had helped him grow while he was younger. I learned that the opportunities that you are exposed can really influence your future.

Social Security Office

Date: 12/2/14
Time: 6:00 PM
Location: 280 S First St, San Jose CA
The social security office is very important to every citizen in the U.S. As it's name suggests, it secures a person's identity. My mom told me that we should hold onto in a state of emergency or at least have it memorized.

City Hall

Date: 12/02/14
Time: 3:45PM
Location: 200 E Santa Clara St, San Jose, CA
City Hall is huge!!! Not to mention aesthetically pretty with all it's fancy paintings and gorgeous windows. Here Janet, Jose, Jared and I walked to a meeting in a giant room. Outside the room were a few people with signs. We tried meeting some board members here but the meeting had lasted more than 4 hours - it was time to go home. ):

DMV

Date: 12/02/14
Time: 5:15 PM
Location: 111 W Alma San Jose, CA
The Department of Motor Vehicles or the DMV is where citizens are able to register for a license to drive. We tried to take a picture inside, but the security guard yelled at us and made us delete the photo. So we took a picture with the sign outside. The first time I went to the DMV, I learned that you should triple check to make sure you have all your documents, I waited 2 hours for the DMV to reject me because I didn't have my glasses. I aced the permit test but failed the provisional test.. At least I passed my driving test on the first try downtown at the Alma location. Fun fact: Everyone in this photo has their driver's license.

ESUHSD School Board Meeting

Date: 11/20/14
Time: 7:00PM
Location: ESUHSD District Office
The Board Meeting was overflowing with driven students and concerned teachers. On this day, they held a discussion on "Work To Rule" a form of protest held by teachers. In this, both sides had stood up to represent their case. There was a lot of tension in the air as board members presented their data and while students/teachers had given their point of view. This meeting concluded into another meeting and as of now their is no solid solution that both sides have agreed on. I learned how important it is to come together as a community and that compromise on both sides is necessary.
